Finished Unity Circles- 7th Grade

Unity is a measure of how the elements of a page seem to fit together - to belong together.   It's the final result in a composition when all the design elements work together giving the viewer a satisfying sense of belonging. You know unity has been achieved when all aspects of the design complement one another rather than compete for attention.  The 7th graders nailed this concept!

Here are the finished fish the 1st grade students created!  Each fish has the 10 lines inside.  Thin, thick, zig-zag, curvy, curly, swirly, snowman, dashing, dotted, and diagonal line are represented!  This is the first year they are doing art in the art room.  I think we are off the an awesome start!

Typography Design with Names- 6th Grade

After discussing typography and how to create interesting designs, students took their name and began creating!  This is a twist on the line design and is a great practice for using design, which is something we do in this class quite often.

Color Exploring- 3rd Grade

3rd grade students discuss ROYGBIV (colors of the rainbow) and how to make different colors, color groups, and shades.  After creating 12 sections using a ruler, they will paint the entire paper in color order (ROYGBIV).  This process will be turned into something incredible next week!

Warm/Cool Color Weaving- 2nd Grade

This is such an awesome project!  It is always so successful.  After discussing warm and cool colors, students use watercolors to paint each color group.  Later we will create movement by weaving the papers together.

Black Line Fish Design- 1st Grade

After discussing the 10 different lines we can find in art, 1st grade students created large fish with each line inside creating different sections.  We drew this part with a black crayon.  The lines create great patterns and add interest to the "artsy fish".  The kids loved creating their own fish!  Then we used watercolors for the bright colors.  Here is a look at the beginning process.
