Ceramic Fish- 5th Grade

5th grade students are working with clay.  For most of them, this is their first time!  I am very impressed with how they handled working with clay.  In the past, paper mache was a medium used every year so creating something 3D was familiar to them.  We created fish because their is so much freedom and it is a great place to start.  First, make 2 pinch pots and "scratch and slip" them together.  After smoothing out the body of the fish, they could create the "accessories" of the fish (tail, fins, eyes, lips, etc.)  Every fish looks different and of course most students gave their fish a name! They really enjoyed this project and it is so nice to begin working with clay.

What a great idea, the two pinch pots together.

Great exercise to demonstrate 3-D in clay.

Thanks for sharing
